A Canadian's Thanksgiving Wishes to Our Neighbors in the U.S.

Thursday, November 28, 2024

As we approach Thanksgiving in the United States, I wanted to take a moment to extend my heartfelt wishes to all our neighbors south of the border. While Thanksgiving in Canada has already passed, I’ve been reflecting on what this season truly means, and how it transcends the dates on the calendar. So, even though I’m Canadian, I still have so much to be thankful for, and I want to share that gratitude with you as you celebrate this special holiday.

For Canadians, Thanksgiving comes a little earlier, typically in October, but that doesn’t make the spirit of gratitude any less important. I believe that Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on our blessings, big and small, no matter when it is celebrated. And while my Canadian Thanksgiving has already come and gone, I’m excited to join you in spirit as you gather with loved ones, share delicious meals, and express thanks for the many things that make life meaningful.

In Canada, Thanksgiving is all about family, friends, and good food—traditional turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and of course, pumpkin pie. It’s a time to celebrate the harvest and all that we have, but also to pause and acknowledge the challenges we’ve overcome and the growth we’ve experienced. While I’m not sitting down to a Thanksgiving feast with my American neighbors today, I still feel an immense sense of gratitude for the things in my life.

What am I thankful for, even as a Canadian? Well, for one, I’m thankful for the beautiful relationships I’ve built with people around the world, including in the USA. I’m grateful for my health, for the opportunities I’ve had to learn and grow, and for the incredible beauty that surrounds me in this vast and diverse country. But more than anything, I’m thankful for the connections we all share, whether it’s through work, family, or friendships. In a world that sometimes feels divided, it’s these bonds that remind me of the importance of community and compassion.

This year, like many of you, I’ve had moments of challenge and moments of joy, but through it all, I’ve realized that there’s always something to be thankful for. Whether it’s the laughter of loved ones, the quiet moments of reflection, or simply the ability to enjoy a good book and a cup of tea in peace—these small moments of gratitude are what make life truly special.

So, to all of you in the U.S.—Happy Thanksgiving! May your day be filled with warmth, love, and delicious food. Whether you're celebrating with a large family gathering or a cozy dinner, I hope you take a moment to reflect on what you’re thankful for. And, even if you're far from loved ones, remember that the gratitude you feel is something that connects us all, no matter the distance.

Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season, filled with peace, joy, and abundance.

Happy Thanksgiving from your Canadian friend! 🍁
